April 7th marked the anniversary of a tragic 1994 genocide in Rwanda, where more than one million lives were lost in within one hundred days of massacre.

The university held a memorial Monday, April 8th in the Chief Mahaska Room of the Dana Atkins Memorial Union on campus to honor Rwandanese lives that were lost and also those lives that were changed as a result of the genocide.  Students, staff, faculty were all invited to partake and even President Anne Fields was present for a night of conversation and support as well as a documentary showing about how the nation has rebuilt and transformed in the past two decades.
