High Hope for Women’s Soccer after Successful Season

The women’s soccer team is flying high after coming off of a phenomenal season. The women had some rough spurts throughout the season, but finished 4-7-1 in the Heart Conference standings; finishing ranked #9.

The Statesmen worked hard throughout the entire season to get to where they knew they knew that they could be at the start of the season.

One of the most monumental moments of the fall season, graduate assistant Lauren Abbas said was beating the Grand View Vikings in conference playoffs with a score of 2-1 in overtime. This exponential win was followed by an automatic second round playoff game, where the Statesmen faced Benedictine University.

The women have five graduating players; Adriana Borjon, Alyce Correia, Camila Parra, AnnaMarie Urps and Dakotah Weaver. All the seniors were recognized at the last home match on October 29 against Missouri Valley.DSC06759C-S.jpg

Coach Willie McGowan comments, “We lose some quality players with this graduating class.” But the Statesmen look to improve their young roster for next year with Mariah Voight, Graciela Belmontes and Katie Salinas acting as key players for the squad.
