“All I was thinking about was we’re down and needed more points. I only realized it when Coach Scott hugged me and our men’s team started cheering.”
This is what William Penn star senior forward Alyssa Phillips had to say about the moment against Peru State when she joined an elite group of Statesmen in scoring her thousand career point.
In a 15-point effort where Phillips eclipsed the mark she was also able to help her team get a solid 22 point win. Although she is proud to join a list of great Statesmen basketball players, it is back to business for Phillips as she said,
“It is a great achievement but now I am back to being focused on helping our team win conference and making to the National Tournament.”
One thing is for sure, it definitely is a great achievement. Phillips is the 22nd player in program history to join that club, immortalizing her in Statesmen basketball history. She is coming off a season where she was an honorable mention All-American and First-team all-Heart. On a season where she is averaging slightly better numbers than last year, she looks be well on the way to possibly even better accolades. On top of all of that Phillips is helping to lead the team to a solid 6-2 in the heart record to start the season.
